ALTERNATIVE PROVISION PROGRAMME

MONDAY & WEDNESDAY | 9:30AM-12PM

FMG Project runs an Alternative Provision Programme for young people aged 14-16 (school years 10 and 11) to learn, grow and achieve through fitness. This is a specialist provision for local Brighton secondary schools to refer their students into. The AP Programme is a 10-week, gym-based coaching programme combining expert strength and conditioning training, coaching around mindsets and motivation, as well as educational content about exercise, nutrition and our health and wellbeing.

The programme is designed to equip and empower young people, whilst also providing new experiences and opportunities, so that they are more able to deal with the challenges in their lives and develop life and social skills such as communication, leadership and commitment.

Students spend 5 hours per week with us at the gym, learning in a different way to the typical education system, in a new and exciting environment. At the end of the programme, the young people design and lead their own workout to a group of adult volunteers. This develops their coaching skills, whilst also pushing them out of their comfort zones and building self-confidence.

If you are a parent interested in this for your child, please get in touch with your child’s school and ask them to put in a referral. Schools should email us to put forward a young person for the programme and we will request some more information, before inviting them to our next taster session. These programmes run in conjunction with the school terms.

SCHOOL AND Parent feedback

I am *James’ learning support teacher from Longhill High School. I have heard from his mum that *James is really enjoying and benefitting from the programme you run, thank you very much for looking after him so well! It is such a shame that it is only twice a week, as I know he would love to go more often.

School teacher

“We would just like to say a very big thank you to yourself and the team at FMG. To be honest it’s felt like a real lifesaver for *Harry at a very challenging time. It’s been like an oasis in the school week and he’s never once complained about going. The fact that he’s done both of those teaching sessions at the end really surprised me, we put no pressure on him so it was his decision and it must have been really great for his confidence and sense of achievement. I asked him just now what his favourite bit was and of course he said the weights, but the good influence he’s been around will have gone in at some level whether he realises it or not!

Our sincere thanks for all the help and what you do at FMG. You’re making a real difference.”
